I founded Fatto a Mano Travel to share my passion for Italy and give travelers the chance to experience the country I love. That Italy is increasingly threatened by mass tourism (over 71 million foreigners visited Italy in 2025), which is steadily hollowing out the places travelers came to see. In Venice, Florence, and other major art cities residents are being priced out, family workshops are giving way to souvenir stands, and the Italy travelers hope to find becomes more elusive each year.
I see luxury travel as a way to reverse that. By directing our clients' time and spending toward master artisans, family-run tables, and small towns, they help sustain the communities, workshops, and traditions that keep Italy handmade, and they're rewarded with a deeper, more authentic experience.
We work closely with each client to curate bespoke, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and meticulously plan every detail of your itinerary in Italy.

I’m Michael Gallagher, founder of Fatto a Mano Travel. Having twice lived in Florence, I have been traveling in Italy regularly since 2011.
As I have learned her language, her culture, and her history, Italy has become my second home. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to spend about a month each year in Italy with my wife, Alexandra, and daughter, Leila.
Over the years, I have developed dear friendships with proprietors, artisans, restauranteurs, and local experts throughout Italy. Collaboratively with their support, I look forward to creating your next authentic luxury experience in Italy.
